Winter Break is almost here!  The last day of school is Tuesday, December 19 and students return on Wednesday, January 3. 

We hope Kearlsey families enjoy this down time to - celebrate and connect with others, rest & recharge. Make your time together memorable by checking out these places and  events in our community during Winter Break.

Activities

Noon Year’s Eve

Calling all little partygoers and celebratory enthusiasts! Dive into the excitement of the upcoming year with the Flint Children’s Museum’s delightful Noon Year’s Eve event that promises festive fun and joyous celebrations.  Limited spots & pre-registration encouraged

Kwanzaa: A Cultural Celebration Come take part in a festival experience highlighting the principle of Kwanzaa at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 5:30 pm. Admission: Free 

SBEV Mania: Presents and Pain Wrestling Event Sylvester Brook Empowerment Village Flint is an event with WWE’s Rhino and IMPACT wrestling stars at Insight Health and Fitness Center on Friday, Dec. 22. Get ready to witness the most thrilling and adrenaline-pumping matches featuring some of the biggest names in the wrestling industry. Whether you're a die-hard wrestling fan or simply looking for an exciting night out, this event promises to deliver non-stop entertainment and thrills. Free food, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. Admission: Free - Children, pre-K through 12 years old; $20 – Children, ages 13+ & Adults. Read more & register/purchase tickets here.  

 Winter Camp at  Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint Have fun at the Boys & Girls Club, planned activities include: music, games, sports, and arts & crafts! Free lunch & snack included. Camp runs Monday-Friday, December 18-29 from noon-5:00 p.m.  Appropriate for ages 7-17 years old.  Visit to register: www.bgclubflint.org

Museums

Flint Children’s Museum Visit the museum during your winter break & have fun crafting and making whatever comes to mind in their Maker Space down in the Monster Recycling Center in our Discovery Zone. Included with admission, while supplies last. 

Flint Institute of Arts FREE Art School Activity: Holiday Print, Thursday, Dec. 21 – Learn more about relief printmaking with Art School faculty Janice McCoy. Participants will be guided through the process of pulling a print with a festive holiday image to take home.

Reading Challenges: Reading is Fun for All Ages Join a reading challenge through the Genesee District Library. Their Winter Reading Challenge: Where We Come From begins January 1 and the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is ongoing. Learn more:  https://www.thegdl.org/beanstack/

Theaters

NCG Cinema - Grand Blanc Watch The Polar Express at NCG Cinema through Dec. 24. It a featured film in their FREE Holiday Family Film Fest.   •  The Queen Light Show: “From Mercury with Love” - Back on the Longway Planetarium schedule by popular demand, this original light show features ten of Queen’s greatest hits, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites the Dust, and You’re My Best Friend, all set to amazing visuals and a 7.1 surround sound system!

Music

FIM is hosting two community programs at The Capitol Theatre:

  • Flint Under the Stars: Gospel – Dec. 20 - Performing are Jeremiah Towner and the Highest Praise Gospel Choir, and Lateena Martin. Highest Praise Gospel Choir, founded in 2008, is a choir that has been assigned to reach the hearts of their peers and others through gospel music.  Lateena Martin is a classically trained, incredibly versatile professional vocalist of the highest caliber. FREE to attend, but tickets are required.  
  • Flint Under the Stars: Waylon Handel – Jan. 17 - The Michigan native has quickly become recognized for his down-to-earth style, bold delivery and vivid storytelling. Named after country music legend Waylon Jennings (one of his biggest musical influences), Hanel has worked to hone his skills in developing a vintage signature style of his own. FREE to attend, but tickets are required.  

Parks

Winter Break Camps at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum Participate in one-day camps at For-Mar - for children 7-18, all abilities. Cost is $15, and pre-registration required.

Crossroads Village: Christmas Holiday Magic Make memories to last all year when the spirit of the season fills the streets and shops of Crossroads Village, with thousands of lights sparkling. Join friends and family for an evening ride on the Huckleberry Railroad and watch Village artisans make vintage crafts. A family tradition for over 30 years! Now through December 30. Sports & Recreation

Crystal Fieldhouse Ice Arena: Ice Skating The Fieldhouse has public skating opportunities throughout winter break. Admission is $7, and skate rental is $3. Ages 5 and under are FREE. Dates and times are posted to their calendar.

Toboggan Hill: Genesee County Parks You’d think the name would say it all. But there’s more to the story. Toboggan Hill is Genesee County Parks’ biggest, best and, yes, most challenging sled and toboggan area, an expert-level attraction that features a long rolling hillside that gives you the thrills of a rollercoaster ride. It’s not for everyone, but it is fun for all. Facilities open when terrain is frozen & there is 3″ accumulation of snow. When the gate is open the park is open.
