AMS families,
As part of our new secure entrance upgrades at AMS, a new fire actuator panel was installed. This upgrade ties directly into our existing fire alarm system throughout the building. During our final inspection on Saturday, it was determined that some of the existing areas were not responding in the manner they should. Upon learning this, we immediately consulted with both the State of Michigan Fire Inspector and our local Genesee Township Fire Department to determine the best course of action. Thankfully, this news will not impact our ability to start school at AMS tomorrow or occupy the building.
Out of an abundance of caution, we will be hiring a “fire walker” to make regular rounds throughout the building to serve as the primary point of contact with the fire department. The fire walker will be present anytime the building is occupied. They will continue to patrol the building and regularly communicate with local fire authorities until the inspection of the fire system upgrades are approved.
On Saturday, we received approval to occupy the new front office at AMS at the west side of the building. While we will begin the school year working from the temporary offices on the south side of the building, we will be moving to the new offices and utilizing the secure entrance beginning Tuesday, August 27th. We are grateful to our community for their support to provide this additional layer of security for our students and staff.
Please let us know if you have questions or concerns. As always, the safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority.
Sincerely,
Lisa Oetting
