Winter Break is almost here!  The last day of school is Friday, December 20 and students return on Monday, January 6. 

We hope Kearlsey families enjoy this down time to - celebrate and connect with others, rest & recharge. Make your time together memorable by checking out these places and  events in our community during Winter Break. *

Activities

HOHOHO Holiday Show at the Flint Children’s Museum.
Are you ready for some holiday fun with Ventriloquist Richard Paul, Rodney the Rat, and Mrs. Clause? Join us for a festive Ho HO Holiday Show where you’ll meet Frosty the Snowman, dance the Ho Ho Twist, and sing along to the Seven Days of Christmas. It’s a family-friendly event filled with puppets, magic, music, and lots of audience participation. Admission: Included with admission of $8/per person

Noon Year’s Eve
Calling all little partygoers and celebratory enthusiasts! Dive into the excitement of the upcoming year with the Flint Children’s Museum’s delightful Noon Year’s Eve event that promises festive fun and joyous celebrations.  Admission: $8 per person

Toddler Art Explorers - Jan. 3
Bring your toddler for some art-filled fun at the Flint Institute of Arts. We will read a story, go on a gallery hunt and explore with art materials in the studio. Viewing and Exploring with Art materials builds a foundation of learning for a lifetime in all areas of development. Recommended for ages 18 - 36 months of age. Admission: Free

Museums

Flint Children’s Museum
Visit the museum during your winter break & have fun in their Winter Wonderland. Play in the giant snow bin, build a snowman, play with igloo ice blocks, snowball catapult and hoop game. Admission: Included with admission

Flint Institute of Arts
The exhibition Pick of the Litter: Cats & Dogs in Art explores our devotion and enduring fascination with the world's most familiar pets, highlighting the unique bond between humans and their furry friends. This exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, and works on paper that depict cats and dogs from ancient Mexico and China to modern day America. Admission: FREE to Genesee County residents

Sloan Museum of Discovery
Explore the Sloan Museum & visit the early childhood learning gallery, discovery hall/science gallery and the Durant Vehicle gallery. Admission: FREE to Genesee County residents

Libraries

Reading Challenges: Reading is Fun for All Ages
Join a reading challenge through the Genesee District Library. Their Bundle Up with Books begins December 1-February 28 and the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is ongoing. Learn more: https://www.thegdl.org/beanstack/

Theaters

NCG Cinema - Grand Blanc
Watch The Polar Express at NCG Cinema Dec. 20-24. It is a featured film in their FREE Holiday Family Film Fest. They are also presenting Harry Potter Holidays, tickets are $5. NCG Cinema’s holiday programs are through December 25. Visit for more information: https://web.ncgmovies.com/sites/0650

Longway Plantarium

Flint Institute of Music is hosting two community programs:

  • Holiday Pops - Dec. 21 - The Flint Symphony Orchestra has been sharing their enchanting holiday spirit with generations of Flint audiences and can’t wait to spark new magic with this year’s Holiday Pops — Home for the Holidays! Join us for time-honored audience favorites of traditional and contemporary Christmas music along with a selection of upbeat and festive songs.   • Mid-Michigan Band and Orchestra Festival Concert - Jan. 10 - After an exciting day of workshops, rehearsals and fun, the Flint Youth Wind Ensemble, Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra, and over 200 talented high school musicians from across mid-Michigan take to the Whiting stage for a public performance that’s not to be missed. Parks

Davison Parks Trail of Lights - Dec. 20-21
Trail of Lights is open for walking from 5:30-8:30 at the Robert Williams Nature & Historical Learning Center, 10069 E. Atherton Rd. Davison. Admission: Davison residents - $4, non-resident - $6; Tickets may be purchased at the gate. https://davisontwp-mi.gov/calendar/?mc_id=1131

Kids Drop & Shop - Kids Stay, YOU Sleigh - Dec. 21
Do you need a few hours to get your last-minute shopping and wrapping done?  Let For-Mar entertain your children with our winter inspired crafts, activities, live animals, hikes and more! This is a great drop off program for your child to get their wiggles out and you to have some adult time. Sign up for 1 or more hours. Children are required to be 5 or older to participate. Dress for the weather and bring your hiking boots. For ages 5 and up. Admission: Cost: $10 per hour, per kid; Pre-registration is required by 12/20/24.

Winter Break Camps at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum
Participate in one-day camps at For-Mar - for children 7-18, all abilities. Cost is $20, and pre-registration required.

Crossroads Village: Christmas Holiday Magic
Make memories to last all year when the spirit of the season fills the streets and shops of Crossroads Village, with thousands of lights sparkling. Join friends and family for an evening ride on the Huckleberry Railroad and watch Village artisans make vintage crafts. A family tradition for over 30 years! Now through December 29. Recreation

Winter Solstice Hike at For-Mar - Dec. 22
Winter is officially here!  Join us as we celebrate the winter solstice with a nature hike through For-Mar! This is a great preholiday hike to get your ready for the winter season. Bring your binoculars and your hiking boots and come enjoy the early winter sunset with us. For all ages, suggested ages 6 and up. Admission: FREE, pre-registration is required by 12/21/24.

Crystal Fieldhouse Ice Arena: Ice Skating
The Fieldhouse has public skating opportunities throughout winter break. Admission is $7, and skate rental is $3. Ages 5 and under are FREE. Dates and times are posted to their calendar.  

Bowling

Discover Michigan Skiing or Snowboarding @ Mt. Holly, Pine Knob & Mt. Brighton

Skating
Rollhaven Skate Center is more than roller skating – as if that wasn’t enough by itself! We offer party packages at affordable family prices, a Laser Tag arena for high energy games with friends and a HUGE bounce house for those 54″ and shorter and a big Arcade for everyone to have fun. Toboggan Hill: Genesee County Parks
You’d think the name would say it all. But there’s more to the story. Toboggan Hill is Genesee County Parks’ biggest, best and, yes, most challenging sled and toboggan area, an expert-level attraction that features a long rolling hillside that gives you the thrills of a rollercoaster ride. It’s not for everyone, but it is fun for all. Facilities open when terrain is frozen & there is 3″ accumulation of snow. When the gate is open the park is open.

Flint Firebirds
